Teatri di Vetro, under the artistic direction of Roberta Nicolai, is a project conceived and realized by the cultural association Triangolo Scaleno, founded in 1991 by a group of young actors united by a shared desire: to create.
For many years, the association produced performances, conducted workshops, and developed projects supported by small contributions from local municipalities, traveling throughout the city of Rome.
In 2003, with support from the E.T.I. (Italian Theatrical Institution) for the R/Esistenze showcase, Triangolo Scaleno began organizing cultural events, combining its artistic work with a concrete cultural commitment, focused on contemporary scenic creation. At that moment, the desire to understand the work of other artists and to create a space that could host a multitude of voices became central.
Out of this desire, in 2007, Teatri di Vetro, a festival of contemporary performing arts, was born, supported by the Province of Rome โ Department of Cultural Policies. The first seven editions were held at the Teatro Palladium and in the urban spaces of the Garbatella district, in collaboration with the Romaeuropa Foundation.
From 2008 to 2011, the festival was accompanied by the conception and management of one of the Cultural Workshops of the Lazio Region. This marked an important period that allowed Triangolo Scaleno to experiment with production activities, artistic mentoring, and to build relationships with entities and structures across regional territories.
In the 2018-2020 period, Teatri di Vetro programmed dance, theater, and music with a specific focus: the shifting roles and positions between artists and spectators.
The festival is supported by Mibac, the Lazio Region, and Rome Capital.
