HEAR HOW FAST MY HEART BEATS
A listening to the encounter between the voices of some adolescents from Liceo Anco Marzio in Ostia, and the questions, reflections, words, sounds and actions collected during the Asinitas’ community theatre workshop directed by the company – with Italians, refugees and asylum seekers – in the first part of 2023, which resulted in the play La voce umana (The human voice).
The group of girls and boys from Ostia was asked ‘what is inside your voice?’. From that question an archive of images, words and songs emerged, and it became a collage of memories of the present, that gave voice to hidden words. The map, where each one’s voice could be searched, was the poem ‘Every Case’ by Wisława Szymborska, which encouraged personal and collective rewritings. Inside each voice there is the voice of the other. Inside this first track, conceived as an assembly, there is a request to listen, and a possibility of love.
