Presentation of the book Il cuore articolare. Un dispositivo coretico of Vincenza Di Vita _ Mimesis Edizioni
Giovanna Velardi’s poetic work insists on a contemporary dance based on collaborations not only with dancers, but also with actors and performers, which turns gesture into an unprecedented bodily structure and carnal device of the stage performance. The book presents the artist’s manifesto entitled Il cuore articolare (The Articular Heart): a working method applied to the body through studies of dance, biomechanics, anatomy and theatre. The analysis is supported by philosophical and theatrical reflections and by a comparison with the major representatives of 20th century performance theories. Thus, the book outlines the evolution and stages of a methodology that draws on the masters of the contemporary scene and on their confluence in Velardi’s corporeal style. After a careful examination of dance, to be understood in its primordial choral meaning, what follows is the analysis of the concept of โarticular heartโ and its theoretical and practical declinations (the latter is written by the dancer and choreographer herself).
